Redknapp, Dele Alli & history made

A few quick pieces of site news before tonight's offering. I have removed all ads from links, a brief experiment that I wasn't fully behind as I find the ads on other sites before you can view content annoying, indeed I turned them down on my site as too many in Newsnow have them.

The ads for the Football-Shop.net you see at the end of each post is this sites own shop so I'd rather earn that way through product sales and from the ads that appear in the sidebars and I thank all of you who do click on them, it's very much appreciated (so keep it up) for the time that has to go into producing the content for the site.

On a similar note I have no idea why some comments show and some don't, Intense Debate remove them after there are 20 for some reason, goodness knows why but I get them all in my email account so do read them. Once again it is appreciated when I receive comments thanking me for the article and I encourage constructive points if your view differs from mine. Moron based comments can be kept for other sites thanks. The sooner I move the site across to Wordpress the better probably.

It is a legal requirement for me to tell you that the two Kitbag adverts (one at the top, one in left sidebar) where you can buy a shirt, are commission based so I'll earn a small amount from any purchase made. Right that is all the website stuff out the way let's get on with the evenings entertainment and I have three links to items for your delectation.

Harry Redknapp in his Kicca column takes a ;look at The Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur game and felt United had no pace in the side.

While many have praise for young Dele Alli there is one questioning voice, a certain Chris Waddle. He raised a legitimate question about stepping up two grades of football, the Premier League is a different game than pre-season friendlies. Ryan Mason did it last season so stepping up two divisions is quite possible.

Tottenham Hotspur set history once again on Saturday when we became the first club to start with 4 Belgians in the side, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Nacer Chadli and Mousa Dembélé.

We have a rich history of being first, a history which includes:

  • Tottenham Hotspur were the first team in North London - established in 1882.
  • Spurs were the first non - league team to win the F.A.Cup in 1901 - defeated Sheffield United 3-1 in a replay at Bolton, following a 2 - 2 draw at Crystal Palace. We are still the only non-league team to win it.
  • Spurs were the first team to wear numbers on their shirts - We led the campaign for numbered shirts and in 1939 for the F.A.Cup against Watford we wore numbered shirts and won 7 - 1.
  • Spurs were the first team in 20th century to win the 'impossible' Double in 1960/61 season, when managed by Bill Nicholson, we won the 1st Division with 31 wins and defeated Leicester City 2-0 in the F.A.Cup Final at Wembley.
  • Spurs signed Jimmy Greaves from AC Milan in 1961 for £99,999 so that he wouldn't be the first £100,000 player. Our best wishes go to Jimmy for his recovery.
  • Spurs were the first British team to win a major European trophy - European Cup Winners' Cup - defeating Atlético Madrid 5 - 1 in the Final in Rotterdam.
  • Tottenham Hotspur set transfer records throughout the 50s, 60s and 70s.
  • Spurs became the first British team to win two European trophies when lifting the UEFA Cup in 1971/72, defeating Wolves in the Final.
  • Spurs created transfer history and were headline news when we signed two Argentinian World Cup stars in 1978 - Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa. Signing major foreign players was unheard of.
  • Spurs became the the first English club to become a plc.
  • Spurs new stadium will be the first to have a sliding pitch.

In addition Kyle Walker then set another unwanted record when he scored the first goal of the Premier League season, it was the first time such a goal had been an own-goal.
