Obvious Lamela didn't want to be at Spurs

It seems pretty obvious that my assessment of Erik Lamela was spot on, mentally he isn't at Tottenham and hasn't been from shortly after he arrived.

Obvious Lamela didn't want to be at Spurs

He said in his first injury-ravaged season that he wanted to return to |Italy and when a player admits that then his mind is not 100& at Tottenham in this case and if that is so then it is impossible to produce your best. You will not be motivated sufficiently for games, motivation comes from within, not the temporary fix of a coach that wears off soon after the game has started.

If you are not driven to succeed you are always leaving something behind, you look at the players the fans love, they latch onto players with heart, players who it appears to mean something to, they are the players who give you 100%, they are the players fans want to see. If you have the high-quality skill to go with that then you have a player.

Lamela though is more of a flat track bully as we say in cricket circles, meaning he only performs when it's easy and conditions are in his favour. When the going gets tough he fails, as Lamela has consistently done. Skillful yes, mentally strong no.

Plenty of Italian clubs are taking an interest in him, there are reports he has told the club he wants to leave, but now that Clinton Njié and Son Heung-min have arrived perhaps there is no place for him anyway.

Aaron Lennon (who I understand refused to play on the left), Andros Townsend (who is rumoured not to follow instructions) and Lamela all look surplus to requirements, at least two will surely go.

The problem for the Italian sides is that we want to take the risk out of the deal, we don't want the possibility of getting a player back who has flopped again, his value would simply plummet further aided by having a year less on his contract. We will loan him, but only with a guaranteed purchase option at the end of the loan.
Reports are emerging from Italy, via Calciomercato, with a day to go that Marseille will take him on loan.
