Carroll should take a leaf out of the Alli book

It has been quite a rise for Dele Alli and he was the talk of Twitter after a sound performance against Real Madrid that included nutmegs, sprayed passes and energy. It's no surprise that Mauricio Pochettino saw him play against Manchester United and told Daniel Levy he must sign him.

Bet 365 summed his rise up nicely - 93 days ago, Dele Alli was playing for MK Dons vs Yeovil. Today, Dele Alli nutmegged Luka Modric & Toni Kroos.

Alli himself was pleased with his performance. Games like this are important for youngsters like him and they should be equally as important for a player like Tom Carroll when he comes on. It is in these games that he and Alex Pritchard when he gets a chance take them.

. on nutmeg: "It was just natural instinct. Hopefully I've shown what I can do."

It is a fallacy to say a player needs a run of games, poor players might but quality players don't, quality players have the right mental attitude and motivate themselves for a game. Alli was clearly motivated, I'd like to see Carroll with that sort of motivation, that desire to show what he can do.

It's as if one wants to show you what he can do so you can't miss it and the other expects you to know what he can do and pick him on that. One will go far with that attitude and one won't so hopefully Carroll has the same I want to impress approach in him.
