Soldado returning to Spain

Tottenham need to offload a striker sooner rather than later and Emmanuel Adebayor is simply refusing all deals to leave the club just as he did at Manchester City.

That leaves 30-year-old Roberto Soldado as the man to leave and Tottenham will have to take quite a hit on him. There have been inquiries for him, especially from Turkey but as I wrote at the time, I just can't see him going to Turkey, he still has plenty to offer in the top European leagues.

Spain or Italy have always been the obvious choices, Juventus have enquired, Valencia have been linked, Atletico Madrid have been suggested, but the fans would protest if they tried to sign him. Now Villarreal have been reported in Spain by Mundo Deportivo as having met his representatives.

The Chief Executive Officer of Villarreal, Fernando Roig Nogueroles, has met several times with representatives of Soldado and will need to agree a fee with Spurs but it is thought he is available for £11.36 million (US$17.67m - AUS$23.54m - €16m).

He was offered to the La Liga side by his agents, the Toldra brothers, who are searching for a new club for him. A return to a league where he has consistently scored goals makes sense as he will have a confidence boost from familiar surroundings and being back home.
