Spurs targeting the very best

Timo Werner, Anthony Martial, Obbi Oulare, Giannelli Imbula, all are expected to be top players or household names as some on forums like to refer to players.

I remember after Christian Benteke's first goalscoring season in the Premier League the very same Spurs fans on the very same forums were asking why can't Spurs unearth talent before they have made their name, why can't Spurs grab a bargain.

Well they have their wish and now they are complaining about it. Fickle lot Spurs fans. Imbula is expected to be as good as Claude Makélélé, would you be happy signing a 23-year-old Makélélé? Stambouli hasn't impressed and Capoue is going but Imbula is expected to be a grade above these two. Just because one doesn't fire doesn't mean you stop buying young talent altogether.

Werner, Martial and Oulare are all expected to be top level strikers and by top level I mean world class, not just international standard or a good Premier League striker. They are expected to be of a standard that real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich will want them. We are expecting Kevin Wimmer to become a top centre-back.

It's clear Spurs are not just going after young talent, but we are going after the best young talent, the very best. We won't get all of them, Memphis Depay is going to Manchester United on a wage we can't pay and for a fee we wouldn't pay.

If we were simply trying to buy 10 Benjamin Stambouli's (and I think he will come good anyway) then having an issue with buying youth would carry some weight but if we are trying to sign 10 Harry Kane's or Gareth Bale's then that is a different kettle of fish, that is ambition. A route to the top that takes just a little while longer.

There will be a mixture of the two signings of course but some of the talent we are after are players we won't be able to afford to buy in 2 years time, some are make a difference players.
