Only one reason Spurs & Man U are included in an Arsenal story

The daily Star bring us news that Arsenal are considering a bid for Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur target Benedikt Höwedes.

With two experienced centre-backs in Jan Vertonghem and Federico Fazio and two youngsters in Eric Dier and Kevin Wimmer, I'd be surprised if a 27-year-old Schalke 04 player was a target given our stated policy of buying player up to the age of 27.

Dier may well be first choice alongside Vertonghen next season and Fazio will be expected to improve in his second season. If we go for a fifth centre-back they will surely be young again, Höwedes wouldn't be interested in coming to play second fiddle.

We may well have been after him at some point but surely we are not now which leads one to ask the question, when in the eyes of the media does a target become a former target?

If we hold no interest in him, and I'm sure we don't, then why include us in the story. outside of Arsenal fans nobody is interested in them so the paper must be putting two more glamorous names into the story to capture attention.

Clearly people don't want to read about our foul-mouthed lower class neighbours, they needed to add a bit of glamour to the story. We are happy to oblige.
