Napoli ponder move for Vertonghen

Italian side Napoli who were beaten by Lazio thus missing out on a Champions League place are pondering a move for Jan Vertonghen according to reports in Italy.

The Italian public didn't take to Rafael Benítez in his two years in charge, despite picking up two trophies and he received only polite applause from fans before his final game in charge.

Cronache di Napoli report that are Napoli ate thinking about 28-year-old Jan Vertonghen and Atletico Madrid 30-year-old Joao Miranda. He was a target when Benítez was in charge and remains so.

The defence has let them down this season and they plan to overhaul it despite Vertonghen having a contract until 2018 after we activated an extra 2-years clause last summer. The Belgian refused to sign a new contract and his wages wouldn't be a problem for the Italian side.

It's not hard to see why they are interested, he won 67% of headers, beat his opponent 92% of the time, won 56% of his tackles and a pass completion rate of 85% in 32 2014/15 English Premier League games.
