Lamela up for sale

A lot of rubbish has been written about Érik Lamela with the media trying to create a paper selling story by trying to drive a wedge between Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino.

Every player has his price first of all and Erik Lamela has had two seasons to produce something, which basically he hasn't. Looking good doesn't win football games, output does and Lamela doesn't have a great output. His job is to score goals and create them, either through skill or off the ball running creating gaps for others. That is the bottom line for him.

Two goals and seven assists in 33 games in the Premier League is not a return of any note when you consider his skill and the fact he played 2,299 minutes, which equates to 25.54 games. that is a goal every 1,149 minutes and a hand in a goal every 255.44 minutes. They are not good statistics.

He improved towards the end of the season, he scored, having made a rare venture into the box and also had an assist with a nice pass, but to be honest there are plenty of players who could have produced the same or more.

The press have tried to say that Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep Lamela where in fact he would sell him if the club were offered the right price. The press will have a nice story if Spurs do sell him and the anti-Levy brigade will once again moan he is undermining his head coach, all total baloney.

Pochettino has had a full year to get something out of him and hasn't, if we can't sell him we'll hear the 'we never wanted hin toi leave' PR which many will swallow.

Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici has flown to London and held talks with Tottenham officials over the proposed sale of Lamela. We want 30-year-old Spanish international striker Fernando Llorente who is surplus to requirements next season. In addition to that deal the availability of Argentinian Érik Lamela has been discussed and the Italian champions have been told he is available.

Juventus boss Max Allegri wants either Oscar, his first choice or Lamela and Paratici has been quoted £25 million (US$38.75m - AUS$50.26m - €34.64m). The Italians want Spurs to accept at least £3.61 million (US$5.60m - AUS$7.26m - €5m) less than that and a second meeting is planned according to reports in the Italian media.

With two potential deals being discussed one in which the Italians want more from us and one in which we want more from the Italians there is room for negotiation and the chance for both sides to give a little.

Tottenham are happy to keep Lamela but they are also happy to let him go if we don't lose too much on him.
