Holtby auto-buy clause

There still seems to be some confusion over Lewis Holtby with the Telegraph triggering a load of articles from websites suggesting we will be looking for a buyer for the German. We don't need to, Hamburg have no option, they have to buy him, guaranteed.

Holtby is staying in Germany with Hamburg as he has consistently told the German media. As reported by German newspaper Bild in January Holtby has an 'auto-buy' clause in his contract and that was triggered after he had played just 3 games for them, that occurred in Matchday 5 against Norussia Monchengladbach.

It's all to do with Financial Fair Play no doubt and a way of Spurs guaranteeing his sale, while Hamburg officially get to buy him this summer, they spend a lot last summer. Holtby moves officially on 1 July for £4.66 million (US$7.4m - AUS$9.5m - €6.5m) at today's rates. He'll have a contract at the Bundesliga outfit until 2018.

He is an automatic sale, he is only a Tottenham player in name, on 1 July he isn't.
