Sevilla striker Bacca doesn't fit Spurs

For some reason stories continue to persist where Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca is called a Tottenham target, they makes no sense.

Paul Mitchell has been brought in to source players who you would describe as bargains, he has been brought in to use his analytic skills to find the unsung stars of tomorrow, not the obvious target of today. Our transfer dealings have been pretty poor as manager after manager has bought the type of player they want so we have a squad that isn't what the current manager wants, but has to work with.

He has done the right thing by assessing them, settling on his bare bones that have a future at the club and making sure the rest know they have no future at the club and whether they want to stay or not they should go, as they won't be in any squads. Short term pain for long term gain.

Pochettino has attempted to say this is not the squad I want and has made an effort to ensure the deadwood is cleared. Most windows see us wanting to sell certain players who simply refuse to move, Pochettino doesn't want that so with the agreement of Daniel Levy has sent them a message and hopes to clear the ranks in the way we have been unable to do so before.

Two to go are Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, thus every newspaper out there when they want to write a story about a striker throw the Tottenham name into the mix to try and give it some credibility. Carlos Bacca is one such name, I have heard nothing from the rumours that come out of the club that Tottenham have any interest in him.

At 28 (29 in September) he is too old for our transfer policy and given Daniel Levy has stated we will only be looking for payers up to around £16 million unless a special one becomes available. Bacca is too expensive and neither is he special, he doesn't fit our transfer criteria in any way.

Several strikers from Spain have moved and seen a downturn in their careers, we bought Roberto Soldado, who flopped, Alvaro Negrado went to Manchester City and flopped, Fernando Llorente went to Juventus and can't get a starting berth, 8 goals in 40 appearances this season, most as a sub. There have been successes as well of course Gonzalo Higuaín at Naopli for instance, 16 Serie A goals, 27 in total this season.

Bacca has scored 20 La Liga goals and 26 in total this season, he scored 14 and 21 in total last season. We were interested in the Columbian 2 years ago and we looked at him last summer as well but while we may well need an experienced striker to do a job from the bench and in Europe, he doesn't seem to fit our requirements.

Harry Kane is the first choice, we want a young striker to challenge him and with a lack of experience within the squad a striker with experience who knows he is not a first choice but can do a job when called on. Ricky Lambert was effective at Southampton, he even earned an England call as a result, he has had a season of basically doing nothing at Liverpool.

A striker you can rely on who knows the Pochettino system, he would provide a short term solution while Kane and another youngster develop. There are stories linking the 33-year-old with a move to newly promoted Bournemouth but I wouldn't complain if he ended up at White Hart Lane to perform a specific role.

But Bacca, I don't see him coming to Tottenham at all, it is not even known whether he wants to leave Sevilla, who wouldn't want to sell to us anyway after we annoyed them by pinching Fazio. With no news coming out od Spurs links with him just sound like paper talk.
