Not a bad Sunday for Spurs

Despite Arsenal winning 5-0 it turned out to be a good day for Tottenham with Southampton losing 1-0 at home to Swansea City as it leaves Spurs just one win from fourth place.

Southampton still sit fourth by virtue of a one goal difference better than Arsenal with Tottenham in sixth but just two points behind. The 3-0 win against WBA certainly helps but we have a big goal difference to catch up so will probably have to secure more points, if we have the same number of points at the end of the season we will miss out.

That has been the fear from the start of the season and why we needed and need to be clinical when we are 2-0 up. I have been discussing this for a couple of years now and it is good to have a head coach with the same approach at last. When we were 2-0 up on Saturday Mauricio Pochettino was annoyed we sat back and just passed the ball around doing nothing with it, he wanted us to continue creating and quite frankly at that point they were there for the taking.

We did the same against Sheffield United in the Capital One Cup semi-final at Bramall Lane and Christian Eriksen complained we should have scored more instead of resting on a 1-0 scoreline. His father, Thomas, revealed his sons frustration to BT Sport but also added he is very happy at Tottenham.

“He thinks it’s a bit annoying that the games are being decided that late on and that they don’t score more goals.
“On Wednesday for example they could have scored two or three more goals and then it would have been over and they wouldn’t have struggled at the end. But that’s just the way Tottenham are playing at the moment.
"They can’t kill the games. It’s like they seem to win 2-1 all the time. But he is really happy.”

It's part of the mindset that Tottenham need to change but it is ingrained in many of the players but being clinical is not only important for goal difference but also for tight games when we need a goal. At the moment we are relying on Eriksen to sneak games at the end, we need others to step up to the plate.
