Ezequiel Muñoz deal not dead

Tottenham have been looking for centre-half replacements, if they can shift Vlad Chiriches or Younes Kaboul and Argentinean Ezequiel Muñoz is a prime contender.

Ezequiel Muñoz deal not dead

Chiriches however is covering at right back and Spurs have a lot of games, Pochettino has had little time to assess DeAndre Yedlin and decide whether he can cover for Kyle Walker or whether Chiriches has to stay while Yedlin gets his feet under the table and we work on his defensive work.

Italians Roma have him as their number one target and have agreed terms with his representatives but stories in the Italian press have suggested officials are saying Spurs are refusing to let him leave. Further reports suggest that the fee being demanded is too high, we want roughly what we paid for him. Fans will read what they want into that depending upon their anti or pro Levy stance, even though it's not down to him. Levy doesn't valuate the players and Baldini does the donkey work on deals.

Younes Kaboul has been touted around and there has been interest but nothing has turned into a deal as yet. He is a long way down the pecking order now and his mind is clearly not at Spurs if you watch his occasional displays, Burnley for instance.

One replacement lined up has been Ezequiel Muñoz of Palermo who is available on a free in the summer. There has been a lot of speculation he will join AC Milan though and the two clubs are talking. Palermo left him out of the side recently claiming his head isn't focused enough with all the transfer speculation at the moment.

Speaking to MilanNews.it , the 24-year-old Palermo defender said he didn't know anything about the interest from giants AC Milan.

"I know nothing about this deal. All players like to go to Milan. Now I have a contract with Palermo and I have to respect that, after you will see, yet there is nothing."

Now you could read that two ways, firstly he knows nothing about a deal and thus it's all paper talk, except we know the clubs have been talking as officials have confirmed it, also that Spurs and West Ham have been in touch. Secondly that representatives do all the talking and, especially it seems to me with South American players, they get told where they are going.

Tottenham hope to sign him in the summer but if Kaboul or Chiriches leave then that free up a non-home grown player slot and Muñoz could be signed early, unless his heart is set on Milan. I suspect that unless there are others we may bring in now that we don't know about yet, that if Muñoz tells us he wants to sign for Milan then Chiriches won't be allowed to join Roma and will have to wait for the summer.

Héctor Moreno, Espanyol and Mexico, is on the radar for the summer after we assess him following his broken leg, however thus far he has only played 554 minutes of football as he recovers his fitness. He has started the last two la Liga games after being confined to Copa del Rey matches. Espanyol have won both those league games without conceding a goal.

Transfer deals are not isolated sales or purchases, many events are linked and they have to all fall into place for just one deal to be completed and rather than a window to window approach the bigger picture in terms of player movement has to be considered.
