Tottenham bid for striker Emenike rejected

Tottenham have been looking for strikers to supplement Harry Kane and have no intention of paying over the top for players.

Tottenham bid for striker Emenike rejected

Paul Mitchell has been brought in as head of player recruitment to find players who can fit into our system, in the roles Pochettino requires, without costing the earth. He is also charged with sourcing new talent to develop for the future.

Tottenham have been following 27-year-old Nigerian striker Emmanuel Emenike of Fenerbahçe for some time now. There were reports that he was offered to Chelsea in the summer for £15 million ($22.85m - €19.16m) and that Arsenal are chasing him.

Tottenham have placed an initial bid of £7.84 million ($11.92m - €10m) which shows a marked difference in valuation between buying and selling clubs. It is highly likely that the other clubs value him in the same ball park and won't be interested at the higher Fenerbahçe price.

You could perhaps see it rise to £10 million ($15.24m - €12.77m) but doubtful the three Premier League sides would be willing to pay more. As with all transfers, you try to get them at a reduced price, then the right price and move on to other targets if you can't.

His record of 2 goals in 15 games this season suggests the lower end of the scale is a more realistic price, especially when you read the weaknesses Whoscored list, finishing (rather crucial that one), aerial duels and discipline. Hardly sounds like he is worth his wages of over £50,000 a week.

The Tottenham bid was revealed by Fenerbahçe president, Aziz Yildirim who said he has turned down the offer and expected Emenike to remain at the club.

“Emenike offer came, they gave 10 million Euros. However, I trust him. I therefore rejected the offer. I trust Emenike and Diego. Emenike, as well as Diego will add to the strength of our team in the second half of the season.
“They will give the performance expected of them. They will make a major contribution towards our success. I have no doubt about this.”
