Rose may have to improve his feet positioning

Now the euphoria of beating Chelsea comfortably has died down, although can it ever die down, I have taken another look at the first-half from a point of view of what we can improve upon.

Rose may have to improve his feet positioning

The first-half was an even affair, Hazard was causing us problems, but only when he drifted over to Danny Rose. When faced with Walker he produced nothing, Rose however was getting caught when Hazard changed direction. The two things that spring to mind are body shape and feet position and I think it may be the later that was giving him problems.

His feet were wide apart so when Hazard changes direction Rose has to move his whole body weight in the opposite direction thus his turning time is greater. Of course that all depends upon where his body weight is, if he is leaning back with his feet forward in advance of his body then turning becomes even more difficult, the more upright he is the easier it is to turn as you have to shift your body weight less.

Occasionally he went forward slightly too early when we had the ball on the opposite side in defence and as the move broke down in midfield around the half way line he was out of position upfield. For his goal he was jogging forward as we attacked down the right and was still way outside the area when Chadli hit the post but was alert and turned on a sprint. In other occasions he was in the opposition area or overlapping so he certainly gave us something going forward to counter the problems Hazard was causing him.

When we went behind we had a spell where Chelsea were in control and were pressing our centre-backs every time they got the ball, we had to pump the ball forward too often which just gave the ball back to them. Only when we regained a bit of composure did we start to play the ball through midfield again. With good pressing it's not always possible but it demonstrates why everyone has to be thinking ahead about creating space for someone else.

This was highlighted during one of our moves through midfield. Dembele, Eriksen and Bentaleb were working well as a team when we had the ball, two going across the field leaving space for the third and the ball worked between them to the free man. I kept a close eye on Dembele and he had a good half.

It always amazes me that something so basic and so simple is so badly executed so often. I'm talking about throw-ins. The number of time a throw in bounces up and a player has to control it on his chest or head it is crazy when it is simple in the same position to throw it to their feet. The ball is immediately under control quicker which has to be a plus. It's an aspect of football that is totally ignored from what I can see, why isn't it ingrained in the players, especially as it doesn't exactly take hours of coaching.

Now to watch the second half again.
