Neville feels Spurs are improving mentally

Tottenham Hotspur are changing the mind of top TV pundit Gary Neville who has always felt Tottenham have a soft under belly and were a team you expected to beat.

Neville feels Spurs are improving mentally

Neville spoke earlier in the season after the Newcastle United home defeat when Spurs were asleep at the start of the second half. He pointed out on Monday Night Football on Sky, players stretching, players pulling up their socks, players talking. Younes Kaboul was one of the culprits and when we played Burnley recently in the FA Cup replay who was fast asleep at the start and way out of position, a certain Younes Kaboul again. That has nothing to do with skill and everything to do with mentality.

“When I think about Tottenham, nothing has changed – they’re weak, weak mentally and that gives the manager a big problem.
“The big challenge Pochettino has is transforming the mentality at the club over the next two to three years.
It’s so poor. And Tottenham historically… it’s what I always think of them – never ready, weak, weak up here (in the head), and they have to change that culture

Speaking after the Sunderland late victory Neville was seeing the changes Pochettino is trying to make start to take effect. He can see improvement which is an encouraging sign for us Spurs fans. Forget club allegiances Neville knows what he is talking about, he's played against the soft touch Spurs so if he sees a toughening up, then it's happening. Perhaps it will start to change the mind of the Pochettino doubters among our own fans.

"I've always thought they'd let you down. But something is happening there. There's more energy in the team, and they keep putting themselves in these positions, continuously where they have to get late goals to scramble for victories. That shows spirit, character, and resilience, to go to the end to fight.
"It's not always something we've been able to say about Spurs, that they are capable of digging in and showing fight. They have always had talented players but I think there's something positive happening under Pochettino I really do."
