Kane is an example to all

The way to keep improving is to never be satisfied with what has gone before. Enjoy it while it goes right but behind closed doors you look at a game again and say how could I have improved on my performance.

Kane is an example to all

That is what someone with a winning mentality does, they don't look for excuses when things don't go right, they take responsibility and then work to make sure its more successful next time. Continual improvement is the mantra and Harry Kane has been a model of that mantra.

We are seeing the benefits of it now but for the last two years at least Spurs fans have been saying he is a Championship player and will never make it in the Premier League. Not all fans of course, some of us understand youth has to make mistakes, you learn from mistakes and that young players get better quicker when you play them.

Kane has always stressed that he must be patient, wait for his chance and rake it when it comes along. Tim Sherwood gave him the chance towards the back end of last season and he took it. This season he has waited for his chance and banged goals in for the midweek team. His chance at Premier League level came and he took it. That is a lesson to everyone.

Fans fall into two camps, one say a player was never given a chance (run of games0 while the second set say the same player didn't prove he should be given a chance.

If one person said give me £20 and I'll walk your dog while the second said I'll walk your dog then you can pay the £20 which one would you choose.

Tottenham are not a charity, you don't give a player a run of games with your fingers crossed he might be good enough and he might not cost you dropped points. What you do do is look at him in training, is he busting a gut to prove to you he is ready, is he professional when he is not picked or disruptive. It's up to a player off the field to prove he should be played in the field, that he can be trusted. It's then up to him to take that chance, to show potential, to make the coach think he can give more.

Ryan Mason, Harry Kane, Nabil Bentaleb were all of the same mentality, we work hard, we improve, we take a chance if it is given and they did. The next step is to not think you have made it, not to get ahead of yourself, not to get too big for your boots in the way WBA fans say Saido Berahino has. With success comes the responsibility to keep improving.

Brad Friedel has been there and done it, he is in the twilight of his career and seen youngsters succeed and youngsters fail. He talked to talkSPORT and offered some advice for Kane.

“I spoke to John Terry after the game and he said Harry Kane was one of the most difficult people he’s played against this season. That speaks volumes.
“Harry is an outstanding talent. He’s one of the best finishers I’ve ever played with. It’s time for him to focus and keep learning, keep his feet on the ground, and understand it’s a team sport.
“We’ll get a lot of success if the team does everything that is asked of them. You do need someone to put the ball in the back of the net though and he can certainly do that for us.”

Andros Townsend has had to learn it's a team game, at times Harry does to but against Chelsea and Manchester United he showed he can pick a pass as well as run at people. He is an advert for youngsters around the world, come to Spurs and if you show you are good enough and deserve a chance, you'll get one.

Michael Owen knows a thing or two about scoring goals, bursting on the England scene as a teenager and he was suggesting Kane is hammering on the England door now, only Aguero has scored more goals. His first was full of determination, his second was a world class pirouet that has it been Aguero everyone would have been raving about.

I'm surprised at the speed of his improvement but with a winning mentality anything you put your mind to is possible. Now we need Kane to stay fit and Roberto Soldado needs to up his game.
