Italian knickers in a twist

The Italian press seem to have an agenda with Tottenham, at least the online football mews websites do. They seem to be hurt by the fact that Franco Baldini went to Spurs and suggest that he took the list of players Roma were interested in with him.

Italian knickers in a twist

What fantasy land do these people live in, everyone takes the list of players their current employer is interested in to their new club but also every club the size of Tottenham extensively scout on their own and believe it or not watch the same players as Roma do. That basic fact seems to have escaped their attention.

Erik Lamela left for Tottenham, Ezequiel Ponce is being reported as putting on over on Spurs and Baldini if he chooses to sign for Roma and the offers for players are derisory. What they will make of Roma trying to sign Vlad Chiriches, who isn't good enough as a centre-back for the Premier League but may be able to cope with the slower weaker Italian league. Will that be reported as putting on over on Spurs or stealing from under our moses.

The latest to have them up in arms is Aidan Friggieri, a player plying his trade in Malta. They seem to think Tottenham only know about him because Lazio have been watching him and gave him a trial. It's reported as if we have heard they are watching him so have had to go and have a look ourselves. They really do have a problem with themselves.

Has it not occurred to them that as he plays age group football for his country he plays against England and thus is seen by English scouts? Has it not occurred to them that scouts watch every youth tournament?

Now Malta of course was a home for the British during the second world war and there is a large British population there now. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there a few years ago and though it a lovely place to settle one day.

Who is Friggieri,? He is a 16-year-old winger playing for Sliema Wanderers, yet still they are annoyed.
