Is Pochettino forcing Lennon out?

The new manager of WBA, Tony Pulis, wants Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon to join him in the Midlands but what is the benefit to Lennon?

Is Pochettino forcing Lennon out?

Jermain Defoe is available from Toronto FC and it was Steve Bruce who said any team in the bottom half of the Premier League would want him. Whether they can handle the financial package that is required to get him out of his contract in Canada and bring him back to the Premier League is another matter. Defoe went there because he was offered £90,000 a week and at his age he couldn't turn that sort of money down.

Aaron Lennon doesn't earn those sort of wages but like Defoe any side in the bottom half of the Premier League would want him. Lennon believes he can adapt his game to Pochettino's requirements and wants to stay and do that. he is with a top 5 club who challenge for a Champions League slot and play European football every year. Why would he want to gibe that chance up if he believes he still has something to offer Tottenham?

The only thing he'd have to look forward to is playing football each week, there would be no regular European football, with all due respect to the clubs involved, in reality it would be a step down. For Lennon to leave this window, unless a rival come in for him, he will have to be forced out of the club and Pochettino may be doing just that given he didn't get near the team for a Third Round FA Cup tie.

The fact Kyle Naughton didn't get a look-in either could also suggest Tottenham want neither to pick up an injury which would prevent them leaving.

The improvement in Andros Townsend and his future potential would suggest Lennon is no longer needed. Tottenham are known to be searching for a wing forward with Jay Rodriguez top of the list but that won't be going through this window with his injuries.

His contract runs out in 2016 and he is refusing to sign a new one so will only have a year left in July so his value will continue dropping.

There doesn't seem to be a way back for Lennon at the moment but in football you never know. If a club can't agree a deal for Lennon then he'll still be a part of the squad and will therefore get used, then anything can happen.
