More deadwood than a forest

The word from Tottenham a month or so ago was that Daniel Levy would back Mauricio Pochettino completely, that Pochettino had total control over the playing staff.

The Argentinian apparently told the players that they had better put his tactics into practice on the pitch and not just the training field or they could expect to just sit on the sidelines. He told them he had the complete backing of Daniel Levy to sort out the playing issues, that they would leave before he did.

The players were left in no doubt, you either perform or you find another club or you'll just rot. The result is no improvement in performances and speculation as to who Spurs are prepared to let go. Nobody knows for certain who Spurs will try to sell but it's not just a question of selling a player. A buying club has to first want them, then they have got to agree a fee and not expect us to just give players away, then they have to meet the wage demands of the players and finally the player must want to go to the club.

People, experts, say what a strong squad we have, but we don't, we have a bunch of good individual players who play when it suits them and hide under any sort of pressure. Pochettino will have a long list of players the club will listen to offers for. So large is that list that it's probably easier to name the players they won't listen to offers for instead of those they will.

Kane teaching the rest a thing or two
One of only possibly two players showing the right mental attitude all the time.

Hugo Lloris, Ryan Mason, Danny Rose, Harry Kane, Kyle Walker plus his summer signings should be the only players who feel safe. Of the rest it's a question of which ones the club can get decent deals for and buy replacements for.

In January though it will probably be a case of trying to offload Paulinho who isn't even bothering to try and Vlad Chiriches, who has been a disaster from the day he arrived. Unfortunately January is not the window to be buying in, it's more expensive than the summer transfer window, but something has to be done or a bottom half finish is on the cards.
