We must learn when we win as well as when we lose

Hugo Lloris has spoken many times of the need for Tottenham to be mentally stronger if we want to progress. That means making the right decisions at the right time and not making the errors that can cause lost points.

We must learn when we win as well as when we lose

We dropped points against Sunderland through the long standing problem we have about being clinical in games, something we don't practice. We dropped points against Arsenal when Erik Lamela made a mess of a clearance, we dropped points against Besiktas thanks to the mess Vlad Chiriches made and against Southampton Younes Kaboul made a hash of a clearance that Victor Wanyama should have scored from, Hugo Lloris came to the rescue however.

“It’s a good feeling to win the game, especially after the draws against Arsenal and Besiktas where in both games we led 1-0 and conceded a late goal.
“The result is good for our confidence and now we can go forward into the international break and beyond feeling positive.
“As I’ve said before, we all try to do our jobs in the best possible way and we always try to be decisive for the team.
“Today I’m really happy because we were strong against a really good team and we had a good win.”
These mistakes are the cause of a lack of concentration. The phrase a mistake can happen to anyone is trotted out at times like these but it doesn't happen to anyone and when they happen to the same players over and over again then there is something wrong with them.

The better players don't have those lapses of concentration at the end of games or if they do they are incredibly rare. You don't see a winner like John Terry making the howlers we have seen regularly and you wouldn't say he has more skill than Erik Lamela for instance. He wouldn't have messed up that clearance.

It can happen to anyone is too simplistic. Becoming mentally stronger is a must, as I've said before it separates good or quality from top quality. It's the difference between winning and being considered unlucky. It has nothing t do with luck and everything to do with mental ability.

You keep drumming it into our boys and our supporters Hugo, they need to understand it. The Southampton result is something to build on and take heart from. Each lead we hold on to like that will increase confidence and increased confidence should see less errors if the individuals are learning from mistakes.
