Baldini watches German international Kramer

Tottenham scouts have been watching Christoph Kramer according to the Sunday People, so after the invented Ali Alhamada story from their sister paper the Daily Mirror also printed this news items needs a few basic checks for plausibility.

Baldini watches German international Kramer

Kramer is a 23-year-old German international, he has 8 caps, who plays as a defensive midfielder for Borussia Monchengladbach. He is a Bayer Leverkusen player though who has been on loan with the Bundesliga outfit since June 2013, his loan spell finishes in June 2015, which is when his contract expires also.

German newspaper Bild suggested during the summer that Borussia Munchengladbach were going to make a £12 million bid for the player but no bid was made in the end. The Daily Mirror suggest Franco Baldini has watched Kramer at least three times. During the summer both Manchester United and Liverpool made enquiries for him so he is being watched by plenty of clubs.

Today Borussia Munchengladbach are at home to Bayern Munich so he may have the chance to add to his 7 appearances this season, if he has recovered from the flu which kept him out of the last game. Kramer scored in the opening game and has received 2 yellow cards. Last season he scored 3 times from 33 games with 8 yellow cards, two of those goals coming in the last 2 games of the season, the other in the second game.

Listed as a defensive midfielder, the Daily Mirror call him a playmaker and go on to say Leverkusen big-wig Rudi Voeller has said he will return to Leverkusen after his loan spell ends. Gig-wig in this case means Sporting Director.

The report suggests Franco Baldini has been to watch Kramer at least three times and given our desire to strengthen that area of our team with passing players this story looks genuine.

He is of the right age, his contract situation is right (in easy year), he plays in a position we are looking to strengthen, has a 88.9% pass success rate and is a highly though of young player.
