Holtby divided opinion

Lewis Holtby is one of those Spurs players who divide opinion in much the same way Bentaleb does, although for him it's only because Sherwood picked him.

Holtby divided opinion

Bought as a promising player it now transpires he was immature when we bought him, three managers have now decided he is not a first choice footballer for Tottenham, they can't all be wrong. He brought passion yes, but at the end of the day that's about all he bought, there was no great end product. He ran around a lot basically, a stand in but never a first choice.

Fair play to him he simply wanted to play football, he didn't want to be a squad player with us anymore, you can't knock him for that, good luck to him. He was one of the players Pochettino was willing to let go although a section of supporters somehow manage to blame Daniel Levy for selling him!

My previous article will help explain the situation, you can find it in the right sidebar or a link at the top of the recent articles below.

Hamburg manager Huub Stevens has told German paper Hamburger Morgenpost that Lewis Holtby is affected by things going on around him. He said Holtby has grown up while with Spurs, an aspect we fans don't often associate with footballers.

“Sometimes he can be influenced by negative things. Since he went the head never went down. Maybe he has become somewhat adult in his time in England.”

Mario Balotelli is another such player, but when he does grow up the side that has him will have a hell of a footballer. I was hoping that would be us but alas Liverpool have his talent now and on reasonable wages for his talent of £95,000 ($157,053 - €119,538) a week, wages we could have handled. Did Pochettino want him though, we were never really serious contenders for his signature though so It's doubtful.

Holtby has left on loan with a view to purchase, whether that is a guaranteed purchase or purchase option I'm not clear on though.
