Erik Lamela Performance Report

Erik Lamela did OK, not a great performance, not a bad one, his teammates were performing well but he was not quite at their level today. This is effectively his first season in the Premier League having only completed 1 game and had 331 minutes in total last season.

He passed well, linked with his teammates well and showed skill that sometimes meant him taking too many people on. At one point in the second half he looked to have lost the ball but was strong in the tackle, won the ball, shifted it to his left foot and hit the bar. That was Lamela all over, he has that extra something in his locker that can make the difference in games, obviously though it doesn't always come off.

We attacked more down the left so didn't get totally into the game in the first half, in the second he was more involved in the creativity as we searched for a third, the ball in to Adebayor was just a touch to strong but the vision was superb. Games like this will be good for his education of the Premier League, he wasn't at his best but was still making useful contributions and was not doing anything you'd single out as being wrong, a tendency to sometimes take too many on perhaps, but in other games It'll come off and he'll take three men out the game which immediately gives us a big advantage.

A decent performance without sparkling.
