The last week of the transfer window is always the busiest period. More deals are done in the last week of each summer transfer window than at any other time.
With the window closing players become cheaper as clubs have to offload them. Players naturally give themselves as long as possible to secure the best deal possible, waiting to see if a top club will firm up any interest. It's all very obvious and understandable and when you have a squad with the maximum number of non-home grown players in it.
Buying is impossible before you arrange a sale or you may be stuck with players you will virtually have to give away. Fans seem to conveniently forget the 25 man squad rules and the maximum 17 non-home grown players over 21 rule. Any buying club knowing you need to sell is in a very strong position so it's a time of deals.
So what Tottenham Transfer Talk is floating around.
Memphis Depay has on a list of players we were interested in but we never firmed up any interest despite what the papers were trying to have us believe. The stories were almost certainly his agent trying to drum up interest as Manchester United looked at him and like ourselves decided the price was too high. With nobody coming in for him he signed a new contract.
Federico Fazio is a giant of a centre-half who reads the game well and Tottenham have activated his release clause. Spanish clubs make them mandatory in most contracts and then when they feel they want to increase the buyout clause they offer the player a new contract with a higher wage.
They can then demand clubs meet a buyout clause or the player is going nowhere but often the buyout clause bears no relation to the market value of a player. Federicio Fazio and Eric Dier are at the other end of the scale where their buyout clauses are lower than their actual market value.
Dier refused to sign a new contract at Sporting for 2 years before he joined Tottenham for £3.96 million (€5m). Fazio refused contract talks at the beginning of the window preferring to wait and see what may happen during the summer transfer window before any negotiations.

We have met his £8.01 million (€10m) buyout clause which in effect means we pay Fazio that amount and he pays Sevilla that amount. It is the player who actually buys out his club contract rather than the buying club, but in practice the buying club stump up the cash.
Michael Dawson, or at least his agents, are in negotiations with both Tottenham and Hull City trying to tie up a transfer while West Ham also still hold an interest. Also at centre-back Franco Baldini and Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini have agreed a deal to transfer Romanian captain Vlad Chiriches to the Italian club.
Napoli are said to be coming back in for Sandro after Marouane Fellaini suffered an ankle injury in training for Manchester United. I'm sure it's for that reason we haven't seen Vlad Chiriches in pre-season or seen much of Sandro either. Knowing they were likely to be sold there is no point risking injury playing them. Reports are suggesting figures for Sandro between 10 and 15 million, which presumably would be Euros, the stirling equivalent would be £7.99 million to £11.99 million.
Nothing will happen though until after Wednesday when Napoli play their second leg UEFA Champions League tie having drawn the first leg 1-1 with Athletic Bilbao last Wednesday.
Mauricio Pochettino is looking to reshape his forward line if deals can be arranged for players to leave. On the incoming radar is Danny Welbeck who has been told he can leave Manchester United which is a polite way of saying we don't want you. QPR striker, our opponents today, Loïc Rémy is still an option for us at £11 million (€13.77m).
AC Milan are the latest club to show an interest in Roberto Soldado but are highly unlikely to stump up anywhere near his purchase price so a deal has little chance, they are far more likely to try to obtain him on loan which holds little benefit for Tottenham.
