Hull draw, Sunderland win
Three games today in the English Premier League (EPL) so let's take a look at two of them, I don't bet or predict Spurs results, a bit of superstition, they always seemed to lose when I do so haven't done so for over 30 years, not going to start now.
It was another good week on the betting side, had a Betfred bundle up last week £5 at 6/1 netting me £35, then a £5 treble on Betfair netting me £15.89 followed by a small £5 double on Sunday coming up also.
The rolling accumulator below I backed on Betfair, which lost, but I invested some of last weeks cash winnings from my local bookmaker in a fourfold, Swansea, Watford, Swindon and Rangers. All won and the £28 bet netted me £156. The evening £15 on Porto and Sporting (Lisbon) also came up with two 1-0 wins so I'll be collecting another £27 today.
After 2 weeks I've got £168 for my next investments. Iv'e only spent my original £5 which i now have back and can play with the enemies money. I can bet with a sizeable chunk next week or mid week perhaps, we'll see what is on offer. At this stage there is nothing of interest today.
Hull City are a club I quite like for some reason, not a big boy they did well to stay in the division when they were promoted and in Steve Bruce they have a manager who always seems to be fighting at the wrong end of the table. Bruce has previously given me the impression he wasn't quite good enough for the Premier League but an FA Cup Final and some good work in the transfer market is happily showing that not to be the case.
Perhaps he fits Hull and Hull fits him, that is what we at Spurs have been trying to find ourselves. Huddlestone and Livermore, potentially Dawson, give the Humberside club a Tottenham flavour. Spurs were also linked with Tom Ince but he is now at Hull while shrewd signing Robert Snodgrass is out with a long term injury. They had good home form last season which for a time saw them in the top half of the table, eventually finishing 16th. This season they have started with 1-0 win over QPR away from home so this is an opportunity to secure six from six.
Stoke City are now managed by Mark Hughes who has blotted his copybook recently getting QPR into a mess and not doing much better at his previous club Fulham. Tony Pulis was never going to be an easy man to replace but Hughes is doing a decent job with no money. They remain a tough side to beat, even tougher at home. They can play some decent football and have made some interesting signings, Victor Moses will need to show why so much money was paid for him and getting Bojan Krkic from Barcelona was a surprise, he is an unfulfilled talent.

Sunderland are managed by former Tottenham player and coach Gus Poyet who put a remarkable run together to stay up last season. Getting hold of Jack Rodwell for £10 million ($16.57m - €12.51m) was a good piece of business. Poyet has set about reshaping and upgrading the Sunderland squad but it is early days. Last week they drew 2-2 away to WBA, the home draw specialists and back at home they may be a tougher nut to crack today than many people think.
Former Tottenham managerial target Louis Van Gaal, who preferred to wait for the money that wasn't afforded to David Moyes, took over at Manchester United after the World Cup and watched his weak defence ship two goals in a home defeat to Swansea. United have been spending money like confetti this summer, the £27 million ($44.75m - €33.79m) for Luke Shaw is just stupid money, his true value is half that.
As an attacking force there are always goals, but until his players get used to a new system the defence will be shaky and results can not be relied upon. Certainly for that reason alone I wouldn't be considering United as certainties in any game so despite many seeing this as an easy victory, I don't.
