Spurs 6 vs Celtic 1 Report
An under strength Celtic side played an under strength Tottenham side in Helsinki, strange timing with Celtic in the middle of an important Champions League tie.
One assumes money was the overriding factor though the venue was strange given Celtic don't have a big following in Finland. Tottenham have a supporters club so a chance for the Scandinavians to see their side live. Supporters in the UK often underestimate the importance of overseas supporters and expanding our market.
Anyway onto the the Spurs vs Celtic game itself and the lineups for the two teams.
Spurs XI: (4-2-3-1) Friedel; Naughton, Dawson, Kaboul, Davies; Mason, Capoue; Holtby, Kane, Townsend; Soldado.

After 5 minutes the ball was intercepted in front of the defence (Capoue?) and passes wide to Townsend who ran down the outside left and round the full-back. He cleverly cut the ball back to Harry Kane 16 yards from goal and Kane fired it into the top left hand corner. 1-0.
After 12 minutes Kane running at the defence played an on rushing Holtby through who unselfishly squared the ball for Soldado whose shot was saved by Gordon but he tucked the rebound away. 2-0.
Spurs are playing lovely one touch football moving the ball about swiftly and the goal for Soldado from open play will have done his confidence a ower of good, always nice to get the season opener. Holtby started on the right and Townsend on the left.
After 18 minutes an injury, Dawson hobbled off with what looked like an ankle injury after landing awkwardly following a header. Presumably he twisted his ankle and was replaced by Zeki Fryers, Younes Kaboul took over the captains arm band.
After 21 minutes a nice interchange of passing on the edge of the box gives an opportunity for Kane to shoot but it is deflected over the bar,
After 30 minutes the teams has a water break and then the game resumed.
After 44 minutes A Celtic player was allowed to cut in from the right andpass across the box to an unmarked player on the left, Naughton was not quick enough to close him down but got a heel to the attackers shot as he cut back onto his right foot.
Brad Friedel made a fine save with his feet as he was going te wrong way. The ball was clipped back from the byline where Zeki Fryers challenged the wrong side of the striker, The ball dropped just over the line at the far post before Friedel could claw it away. Awarded as a Fryers own goal. 2-1.
After 48 minutes a ball from Kane to Townsend who refused to pass looking for a shot for himself before the ball had to be played back outside the area. It was moved on to Capoue who feigned a shot, skipped past a player and picked out a pass to Holtby unmarked inside the box who slotted it underneath an advancing keeper. 3-1.

After 59 minutes a ball from half way over the top by Bentaleb for Adebayor saw the chance for th shot but Ade turned away from gol. It's all Spurs passing and Celtic chasing the ball.
After 62 minutes Lamela cuts in square from the right with Lennon clear for a pass but Lamela has a shot from 20 yards with his left foot which takes a deflection off an arm leaving Gordon wrong footed. 4-1.
After 65 minutes Lennon plays in Rose who unmarked in space puts in a poor cross to nobody.
After 67 minutes Adebayor tries a curling shot from just outside the area from the right but it curls way over.
After 70 minutes time for a drinks break and Sandro relaces Capoue, while Ryam Fredericks replaces Kyle Naughton.
After 74 minutes a short corner sees Eriksen whip the ball in for Sandro to flick on and Gordon make a smart save.
After 78 minutes Veljkovic replaced Fryers leaving Kaboul as the only outfield player to play the 90 minutes.
After 82 minutes a ball into Adebayor and one touch sees him going past Ambrose who sticks out a leg receiving a booking. A Spurs free-kick and Eriksen curls it into the top right hand cormer from the. 5-1.
After 84 minutes a ball from Lennon, after making room for himself, to Adebayor sees the Togo international hit the post.
After 87 minutes a ball is flicked in by Lennon to Rose who runs at the byline and Ambrose manhandles him on the six yard box. Rose goes down and it a penalty which Adebayor takes, He hits the right hand post as Gordon goes the wrong way and nestles in the left netting. 6-1.
After 91 minutes Celtic centre-back Ambrose is sent off after another tackle.

An entertaining half of football that Spurs largely dominated as you would expect playing against young Celtic academy and squad players. The interchanging of passing and moving is a hallmark of Pochettino's Spurs, the players seem very comfortable playing one touch passes. Harry Kane looks good in his role central of three behind Soldado.
I wonder if the four we saw in the first half Townsend, Kane, Holtby and Soldado are the reserve strike force with Lennon, Eriksen, Lamela and Adebayor being the first choice?
Holtby was involved and had a good game, his versatility makes him an important squad player and rumours of a loan move look wide of the mark. From what I heard earlier in the summer Pochettino likes him and wanted him to stay, his performances and amount of game time backs that view up, he suits the system.
