Sandro stuck at Spurs

Sandro is still at Spurs but not for want of his agent trying to find him a deal in Italy.

Sandro stuck at Spurs

He has wanted to leave since before the transfer window officially opened but teams have only been prepared to offer a maximum of £7.96 million ($13.18m - €10m) for him.

He is not a part of new head coach Mauricio Pochettino long term plans, not because he is Brazilian but because he isn't the type of player we are looking for in that position now. Sandro is basically a destroyer and he is excellent at it but he is not a creator. He is not in the Andrea Pirlo mold which is loosely what we require now.

Pochettino wants his defensive midfielders to be passers of the ball, to be able to set up attacks as soon as the ball is won, to be playmakers as well as defenders. Sandro doesn't fit that bill but the money we have been asking is too rich for Italian clubs as his management agency, Eurostar Management AG,  told AreaNapoli.it.

“There are no positive updates. To sell Sandro at this time is very tough, time is running out and with Spurs there is little room for manoeuvre.
“We can not talk officially about figures, but the demands of President Levy are always very high. If he does not receive what he wants, the player will remain in London."

They then went on to explain why Sandro is not getting much game time at Tottenham and doesn't seem to be in their plans.

“Evidently a technical decision [coaching decision he's not playing]. We are almost at the end of the transfer market, so it is difficult to change anything [arrange a transfer deal] in such a short time, unless a club accepts Tottenham’s terms.”

Transfermarkt value the 25-year-old at £9.68 million ($16.04m - €12.18m) which suggests he is worth more than that, they are usually under a players value. Buyers value him lower still though and we have reportedly lowered out valuation to £10 million ($16.57m - €12.58m).

What is the right selection balance between the Europa League & Premier League

The problem with Italy is there is no money there, even big clubs like Inter have no money and wages are a lot lower too apart from the top class players. A deal can be done on wages but for a player to move from the Premier League to Italy the selling club has to take a hit on a players valuation. It doesn't work the other way of course they still want top dollar for players they are selling to a richer league.

A case of having your cake and eating it. If Sandro ends up staying simply because nobody will pay his fee then he is going to be a bit part player at best and won't figure in Premier League squads perhaps. Nabil Bentaleb has overtaken him in the pecking order as has Etienne Capoue and Mousa Dembele who can fill the role.

All the players we have looked at have been playmakers for that position, namely Estaban Cambiasso and Morgan Schneiderlin, who is the player Pochettino wants. Alex Song is not an option and the stories are just paper talk, there isn't a place in the squad for him until we offload some non-home grown players.

Holtby looks more likely to leave than Sandro at this stage but it may be just Cup games and Group games of the UEFA Europa League if he stays.
