Performance Report

The word coming out of the training ground was that Mauricio Pochettino liked Nacer Chadli, yet the press assumed he was a flop and therefore needed offloading. He was said to have been offered as part of a Memphis Depay offer but we never bid for Depay, merely had him on a possibles list. Then it was suggested we had offered him to Southampton for Morgan Schneiderlin.

He produced a two goal performance that showed why Pochettino likes him. He is a physical presence and thus is good in the air but his headed goal was easy. However you have to be in the right place at the right time and it was Adebayor from the corner of the penalty box that he had interchanged with that made his first goal. He could have headed it but with time calmly took it on his chest and dinked it over the oncoming keeper as he went to ground.

His second he saw Lamela go on a run and made his way into the 6 yard box from where he had a free header in front of goal. He did his defensive work when he needed and pressed when we were pressing, all successfully. Tottenham passed and moved and he was very comfortable in his interchanging role rather than the rigid wide man under Andre Villas-Boas. He is another player who seems to like Pochettino's style and will flourish.

Aaron Lennon sat on the bench will need to continue to up his game and Andros Townsend wasn't even on the bench. I'd expect the pair both to play on Thursday and Chadli to keep his place for the Liverpool game next week.
