Performance Report

Eric Dier looks like what he is an absolute bargain. After scoring on his competitive debut away at West Ham United last week he marked his home English Premier League (EPL) debut with another goal, this time a near post header from an Erik Lamela corner. Defensively he is sound, he offers attacking ability, aerial ability and when at right-back crossing ability.

His stats may say no accurate crosses but his crosses are dangerous and the one into the 6-yard box deserved to have a striker on the end of it. When Kyle Walker is fit he has a problem, Dier could easily take his place, he's that comfortable at right-back even though he is a centre-back.

He made one sloppy pass where to be honest Bentaleb hadn't given him quite the right angle to pass to and the ball therefore went to the opposition centrally 35 yards from goal. That and once having the ball played past him on the right touchline (when he recovered to but the attacker off his cross) were his only blemishes in another accomplished performance, apart from right at the end of the game when he let Caulker get away from him for a free header 3 yards out from a corner. He immediately apologised to Lloris recognising it was his mistake.

A small concentration issue to work on, he can't turn off for a second at this level but at 20 is like, Bentaleb, learning as he goes. That augers well for our future with Harry Kane developing as well.

Kyle Naughton will come back in for the Europa League game on Thursday probably but the big question if we sign Fazio is will 20-year-old Dier or Naughton play right-back against Liverpool, on this form the answer is Dier. He is a better player but we do need to manage his game time and give him rest periods.

    When walker is fit do we play Dier and Vert at CB?

    If we buy fazio, Dier can be used at rb instead of Naughton.

    But would it be more wise to play Dier at CB his preferred role?

    Kaboul played rb before and his not very comfortable at CB so maybe try him at rb as errors are less costly.

    Idk. But I do know whatever option it is its a good headache to have.

    I personally like Dier at CB with walker at rb when he's fit. But I understand we need fazio for now. Which ultimately waste diers talent at rb instead of CB. And uncertain if Dier will keep his place at rb if walker is fit. Or worst we may lose walker due to Dier taking the rb role his own
  2. I believe Dier's talents are still in the formative stages. The lad has an eye for goal. Playing him @ CB reduces his ability to get within the goal area. He kind of reminds me of Bale @ LB. Playing Dier @ RB may do wonders just as Bale was moved frm LB to a more attacking position.

    Dier's desire for goals will make him thrive @ RB. We may have unearthed a great RB in Dier. I would keep playing him @ RB even with a fit Walker. Walker tends to fraustrate me. He has poor recovery, poor crosses and is usually caught out of position. I only put-up with him coz we had no better option. But not anymore!!

    Besides Dier brings something that walker doesnt have: aerial threat and hunger for goals. I'd gladly bench walker any day.
