Uruguayan radio station Sport 890 quote Uruguayan national team coach Óscar Tabárez as saying the Luis Suárez transfer was arranged in November.

“Luis had told me about the Barcelona interest in November last year a few days before the Jordan match. At that time the talks between Liverpool and Barcelona were very good and an agreement was arranged back then.”

Seattle Sounders have released a statement regarding 20 year-old right-back DeAndre Yedlin. Liverpool and Roma are both said to want him. He made three substitute appearances at the World Cup and although you shouldn't sign players on the back of World Cup form, an up and coming youngster from an up and coming nation, may be a reason to make an exception.

He'd be cheap, he has speed and talent. I believe Spurs should sign him and help grow our American links.

Seattle Sounders general manager Adrian Hanauer has released the following statement.

“DeAndre has had a very good season in Seattle and obviously had a fantastic World Cup. This has drawn lots of interest for him from leagues around the world.

“For now, DeAndre is in Seattle and we need him to help us win our upcoming games against Portland. If something transpires with a foreign team, we will announce it.”

Tim Krul has defended his antics in the penalty shoot-out against Costa Rica. He was brough on as a substitute just before the penalty shoot out because he is taller and has a greater reach than Jasper Cillessen, who was angry about being taken off.

“I don’t think I did anything wrong. I did nothing crazy. I didn’t shout in an aggressive manner. I told them I knew where they were going because I had analysed it. It worked."

Brazil team doctor Jose Luiz Runco has had to reiterate that Neymar will not make the final after speculation that alternative treatment could see him fit in 6 days. Runco told Globo TV it isn't possible.

“Let’s not create an illusion to the Brazilian people. There isn’t the smallest possibility for Neymar to play on July 13 if Brazil reaches the final. If Neymar becomes fit to play a professional football match before initially expected, it will be because of the positive progress of his condition through the treatment currently being administered.”

One of the greats of the game, Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stéfano has died at the age of 88 after a heart attack. RIP Alfredo.

Di Stefano, nicknamed the Bond Arrow scored in five-straight European Cup finals as Real Madrid won all five from 1956 to 1960.
