Spurs do need to buy a striker

Let's put this fallacy to bed, just because Spurs are looking at strikers does not mean a striker is going to be sold.

Spurs do need to buy a striker

Everyone seems to have forgotten that a club has four strikers, not three, everyone seems to have forgotten we sold Jermain Defoe to Toronto FC in February and have not replaced his goals.

What happens if a striker gets a season long injury, do we go with one striker plus basically a Premier League trainee? There are FA Cup games, League Cup games, Europa League games, home and usually long trip away games that affect weekend performance, as well as the Premier League fixtures and not forgetting internationals of course.

Do fans seriously think we should leave ourselves with the possibility of having, perhaps, no proven Premier League strikers for that lot?

Tottenham played more games than any other Premier League side last season, go further in Europe and we'll play more. Tottenham had more injuries than any other Premier League club last season according to Physio room. They are two rather important facts that have been overlooked by many.

Emmanuel Adebayor has a mild bout of malaria which will affect his pre-season training. How much?

Malaria can I believe sit in the system making you feel weak and can be a long term problem. What if it is worse than at first feared?

What if Adebayor missed a chunk of pre-season again and is not fit for the start of the season? We are left with a striker who, like Lamela, is having to prove to everyone, including himself, that he can score goals in the Premier League, a player whose confidence was at an all time low.

Another barren spell at the start of the season and his confidence will disappear again, a striker not fit and our strike force is suddenly Harry Kane with no back-up. That would be a daft position to leave ourselves in. We sold Jermain Defoe folks, we didn't replace him.

We were playing with one up front and we still needed him. There is a difference between having a player to fill a position and having a goalscorer. As it is we have one striker proven at Premier League level and he missed the pre-season tour with malaria.

Buying a striker gives us options, it doesn't mean we are selling anyone or have to sell someone, indeed we shouldn't.
