Brazil were humiliated last night in the manner of a Tottenham side of last season. Fans moan about our defenders, it would be interesting to hear them dish out the same to Brazil.

Mentally they were incredibly weak and David Luiz simply hid. Spurs could learn from watching that game and a Lesson in Ruthlessness looks at that.

Some related articles you may not have seen include one that looks at how to improve a side and the improvements Spurs need to make.

The second article covers the lesson fans and players should be learning from youngster Harry Kane.

The third covers transfers, the buying of players and how Spurs need to improve aspects of how they assess a player.

Right let's get into the Tottenham News Shorts - Issue 23, recent news which concerns Shaqiri, Cristian Tello, Fraser Forster, Graham Roberts, Éver Banega and Manchester United preparing to spend £100 million.

Liverpool have been unable to agree a fee with Bayern Munich or terms with Xherdan Shaqiri. Roma are now trying to reach an agreement with the 22 year-old Swiss international's agent, who is also his brother.

Theoretically against transfer policy but it happens all the time in football, no point reaching agreement for a fee if the player isn't interested or has different ideas about salary.

A verbal agreement could allow preliminary talks, but let's be honest, they take place whether there is a verbal agreement or not. The aim? To put themselves in a stronger negotiating position before discussing a transfer fee, Bayern want £15.91 million (€20m) for Shaqiri.

Former target Cristian Tello, the 22 year-old Barcelona winger also interesting Everton, is joining Porto, most likely on loan, his agent Jose M. Orobitg has told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo. Negotiations continue over a permanent transfer.

Everton had hoped to sign the player having had young 20 year-old Barcelona striker Gerard Deulofeu on a loan move. It's a smart move from Everton trying to form a 'special relationship' with the Catalan club.

Benfica want to sign 26 year-old Celtic and England goalkeeper Fraser Forster for £5.97 million (€7.5m).

Current keeper Jan Oblak has passed a medical at Atletico Madrid ahead of his rumoured £15.91 million (€20m) move. The 21 year-old Slovenian will replace Thibaut Courtois who now looks set to return to Chelsea.

Forster has been top of their wanted list for a while if Oblak left and Celtic are not happy theat he has been tapped up in their opinion. New Celtic boss Ronny Deila has already prepared for Forster's possible departure by snapped up ex-Scotland No.1 Craig Gordon.

Graham Roberts ‏was not impressed with David Luis amid Brazil's capitulation to Germany.

"I cannot believe anybody would pay £50 million for David Luiz the man cannot defend and no discipline but better than Fred.

"David Luiz maybe found his position left winger now . Ha ha . What a donkey as a defender and a captain."

Roberts was of course a centre-half and Tottenham captain himself so ought to know what he is talking about. Nice guy for those of you who have not met him.

Reports from the local press in Valencia suggest Éver Banega, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham and Marseilles, is staying at Valencia, despite rumours from teammates he was leaving.
