Pochettino handed a transfer blow
Mauricio Pochettino has been dealt a blow in his quest to strengthen the Tottenham back line so what are his options now?
The signing of 26 year-old centre-back Héctor Moreno will now have to be shelved after he broke his leg playing for Mexico in their late 2-1 defeat to Holland led by the swan diving Arjen Robben.
Espanyol confirmed the injury on their website.
It's a blow to Pochettino who signed him for Espanyol and leaves the new Head Coach with a dilemma. Does he wait until January for Moreno to recover and sign him then, or even next summer when his contract is a year shorter and his fee may have reduced slightly or does he look towards another option.
Tottenham of course have first refusal on Cardiff City centre-back Steven Caulker. Whether Pochettino wants to pursue that option, sign another centre-back or wait until Moreno has recovered, and that could be up to 6 months, we will have to wait and see.
Younes Kaboul and Sandro both took time to recover from long-term injuries, neither was anything like the player they were before. That is not to say they won't regain their form but it demonstrates the problems when a player does suffer an injury.

The Tottenham hierarchy will want to see Moreno playing successfully again before going back in for him so a summer move is more likely than a winter one.
It's the same situation with Jay Rodriguez at Southampton. Pochettino wants him but he is injured until October and then he has to regain form and fitness. Injuries can affect the mind and protecting them causes injuries elsewhere so despite the talk there is little or no chance he'll be joining Tottenham this summer.

The sale of Michael Dawson looks imminent, Vlad Chiriches has been way below the standard required, while Younes Kaboul has only ever had one decent season at White Hart Lane. Centre-back is a bit of a mess at the moment.

I think regardless of who comes in at centre back, with Baldini pulling the strings I dont think we'll pay too much for a decent centre back.
Ben Davies looks a good, fairly inexpensive call for Left Back.
That should leave us plenty for a proper advanced creator to start us kicking some ass.
Spurs have an awesome defensive set up (Dawson aside) but just dont have the right balance in attack against the big teams.
I hope this isnt the 3rd consecutive summer transfer window (since modric and VDV left) where we fail to address the creativity deficiencies within the squad and spend the next season playing boring football and slagging off good attacking pla…
CB, LB are being addressed, they are two of the major areas, the third is creativity. I think most would agree on that.
I dont want much , but if we see these attributes , then it will be a good step in the right direction hehe....................COYS..................... oh and maybe the premier league , a couple of cups would be nice to ........
