Ben Davies remains Spurs first choice left-back target for whom a fee has been agreed with Swansea.

Liverpool remain in the picture and are trying to reach an agreement with Sevilla for Alberto Moreno, failure to do so will see them turn their attention back to 21 year-old Ben Davies. We have to wait on Liverpool it seems, his agent wants him to wait for the Merseyside club.

Bastian Oczipka is one of our back up options should the Davies deal not be completed. He is a 25 year-old German left-back playing for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. He has an all round good game but is weak in the air, however his crossing and dribbling offer positives.

Last summer Sunderland were interested in signing him but he dismissed their advances revealing to the Offenbach Post that European football was more important than money.

"I have been told about that offer. Still, this is not an issue for me. I have two more years of my contract with Eintracht Frankfurt.
"Financially, it is a lucrative offer but does not appeal in a sporting sense.
"We are a side going to play in the Europa League this season. Therefore I am not interested in just ticking over at a mid-table team in England."

At the moment Danny Rose occupies the slot whom West Ham have admiring glances towards. I understand an unknown club have made enquiries about the 24 year-old although Spurs are set to offer him an improved deal to stay at the club.

Certainly with Spurs playing more games than anyone else last season and having more injuries than anyone else two left-backs are going to be needed. Jan Vertonghen does not want to play there while Kyle Naughton is primarily a right-back. Zeki Fryers is developing and will continue to do so this season but he didn't really show last season that he was ready to be the first choice back up left back.

For those reason Rose needs to be signed to a new contract and allowed to develop further.
