Are Spurs missing a striker target?

The only thing that matters with a striker is how often he scores goals and or how often he impacts upon the season with a goal scored or with an assist.

Are Spurs missing a striker target?

Fortunately that is easy to gauge, we can't look at assisting the assist but we are interested in goals and assists so all we need to do is divide these figures into the minutes played.

Seven strikers in a match-up challenge, champ vs challenger.

Below are 4 sets of figures
Set 1 are how long it takes the player to score a goal in the Premier League unless stated.

Set 2 are how long it takes the player to impact on the season with a goal or an assist.

Set 3 are how long it took the player to score last season.

Set 4 are how long it took the player to impact with a goal or an assist last season.

The value is from transfermarkt site so will be consistent for each, they differ from clubs or fans valuation of players significantly.

Of the strikers listed Benteke is rumoured to be available behind the scenes, Tevez and Klose we are rumoured to be quietly after, Hernández needs first team football to continue to play for Mexico while Remy, Bony and Lukaku we have definitely made moves for.

For this exercise I'll start with Christian Benteke and match him up against Romelu Lukaku, then who ever wins against the next opponent etc right to the end, it's easier just to compare the champ to the challenger.

Christian Benteke
Age 23
Transfermarkt site value £15m
Contract until 2017, 29 goals with 7 assists in 60 games in 4,945 minutes
2013/14 season 10 goals with 3 assists in 26 games in 2,126 minutes

1. - 170.52 minutes (PL)
2. - 137.36 minutes (PL)
3. - 212.60 minutes (2013/14)
4. - 163.53 minutes (2013/14)

Romelu Lukaku
Age 21
Transfermarkt site value £22m
Contract until 2016, 32 goals with 16 assists in 76 games in 4,766 minutes
2013/14 season 15 goals with 8 assists in 33 games in 2,598 minutes

1. - 148.94 minutes (PL)
2. - 99.29 minutes   (PL)
3. - 173.20 minutes (2013/14)
4. - 112.96 minutes (2013/14)

Verdict: - Clearly Romelu Lukaku wins this match-up impacting upon games significantly more than Benteke over time and last season.

Champion: - Romelu Lukaku

Carlos Tevez
Age 30
Tansfermarkt site value £20m
Contract until 2016, 19 goals with 8 assists in 34 games in 2,586 minutes
2013/14 season 19 goals with 8 assists in 34 games in 2,586 minutes
Premier League 84 goals with 43 assists in 202 games in 14,611 minutes

1. - 173.94 minutes (PL)
2. - 115.05 minutes (PL)
3. - 136.10 minutes (2013/14)
4. - 85.78 minutes   (2013/14)

Verdict: - Well an interesting match, over the course of Premier League careers. Lukaku is better than Tevez, yet last season Tevez was better in a different league. Premier League is important here and Lukaku last season, despite being down on overall figures, still matched the Tevez figures over time.

Champion: - Surprisingly Romelu Lukaku has to retain Champ status

Miroslav Klose
Age 36
Transfermarkt site value £0.88m
Contract until 2015, 35 goals with 15 assists in 81 games in 6.474 minutes
2013/14 season 7 goals with 5 assists in 25 games in 2,013 minutes

1. - 184.97 minutes (Serie A career)
2. - 129.48 minutes (Serie A career)
3. - 287.57 minutes (2013/14)
4. - 167.75 minutes (2013/14)

Verdict: - He has ability, he scores goals but he is in the twilight of his career, his figures are not going to improve so despite playing in a World Cup Final Lukaku has to come out on top.

Champion: - Romelu Lukaku

Javier Hernández
Age 26
Transfermarkt site value £14.08m
Contract until 2016, 37 goals with 12 assists in 101 games in 4,795 minutes
2013/14 season 4 goals with 3 assists in 24 games in 855 minutes

1. - 129.59 minutes (PL)
2. - 97.86 minutes   (PL)
3. - 213.75 minutes (2013/14)
4. - 122.14 minutes (2013/14)

Verdict: - Close call this one, on Premier League careers it takes the Mexican 19 minutes less to score a goal but game impact is about the same. Last season Hernández didn't play enough and his minutes per goal suffered but impact on the game remained competitive.

The figures suggest that with regular starts Hernández may well prove a better option than Lukaku.

Champion: - Javier Hernández.

Wilfried Bony
Age 25
Transfermarkt site value £13.20m
Contact until 2017, 17 goals with 5 assists in 34 games in 2,470 minutes
2013/14 season 17 goals with 5 assists in 34 games in 2,470 minutes

1. - 145.29 minutes (PL)
2. - 112.27 minutes (PL)
3. - 145.29 minutes (2013/14)
4. - 112.27 minutes (2013/14)

Verdict: - It's tough at the top and another set of top figures. Scores more often than Lukaku but not more often than Hernández, only one season to go on though. He has to go into the mix with the other two but in this match-up does he beat Hernández.

Champion: - Javier Hernández retains Champ status.

Loïc Rémy
Age 27
Transfermarkt site value £10.56m
Contract until 2017, 20 goals with 3 assists in 40 games in 3,238 minutes
2013/14 season 14 goals with 3 assists in 26 games in 2,098 minutes

1. - 161.90 minutes (PL)
2. - 190.47 minutes (PL)
3. - 149.86 minutes (2013/14)
4. - 123.41 minutes (2013/14)

Verdict: - The final challenger and while last seasons figures look good, overall they don't match the little Mexican so he is our winner, with Wilfried Bony and Romelu Lukaku close.

Champion: - Javier Hernández
