After Tim Sherwood was distinctly unimpressed with Paulinho fomer AC Milan manager and Dutch international Clarence Seedorf has drawn the same conclusion.

"Paulinho was very disappointing. He is a midfielder who is not particularly offering an offensive contribution or a defensive contribution, for me that is too much."

Former Tottenham and England striker Gary Lineker, now the BBC lead man for football, thinks England have a bright future and should go into their match against Uruguay confident of victory.

"It was an encouraging performance against Italy even if it was a rotten result," says Lineker. "There is nothing for England to fear. What they have to do is reproduce the performance they showed against Italy."

Frank Lampard speaking on Radio 5 Live defended Wayne Rooney and said we need to focus on the team not individual players.

"I see the same Wayne - he wants to play well and give everything to the team, show his ability in training and in games. We didn't win the other night but the minute we start focusing on individual performances again and again it becomes detrimental."

Yesterday Tottenham winger Andros Townsend said he couldn't see what the fuss was about, he was playing out of position and created England's goal. Maybe that sums up why Andros was a let down for Spurs last season.

Raheem Sterling (pictured above) had no problems when Roy Hodgson asked him to move off the wing and play the number 10 role.

"I would be happy to play anywhere the manager puts me."

The Daily Star have decided that England's crucial World Cup match with Uruguay is worth a £400m to the UK economy.

England midfielder and Tottenham target Adam Lallana says England can get the result they need.

"We are all fully focused on Uruguay and what we have to do. It is a big game, a big pressure game, but I am sure the lads will thrive off it. Training has gone well and there is an air of confidence around us. We were disappointed with the result the other night and we know what the job is, which is quite simple really - to win."

Liverpool and Arsenal are both on the tail of Mexican shot stopper Guillermo Ochoa, who kept Brazil at bay last night report the Daily Express. He got something in the way last night rather in the way Pat Jennings used to do for Spurs.

17:00 BST - Group B: Australia v Netherlands (Porto Alegre)

Australia right-back Ivan Franjic is out of the World Cup because of a hamstring injury. Central defender Ryan McGowan may fill in at right-back against Holland.

Louis van Gaal may switch Holland back to their normal 4-3-3 after changing the formation for the Spain game. His 5-3-2 system tactically outdid an ageing Spain side who they hammered 5-1. Robin van Persie is among three players who are one booking from a ban so will need to be careful, if selected.

The great Pele couldn't get to the stadium for the start of the Brazil game last night, he was stuck in traffic he told Globo TV..

"For the first time I had to listen to the first half of a Brazil game inside a car - we were stuck in traffic."
