World Cup Group B set for a shock

Group B takes place on Friday June 13th, Wednesday June 18th and Monday June 23rd between Spain, Holland, Chile and Australia.

World Cup Group B set for a shock

This group is not as cut and dried as many will assume and takes on added significance because the second placed team are expected to have to meet Brazil, assuming they win Group A.

The tournament is in South America so the heat will favour Chile and Holland have midfield injuries, while Spain is an ageing team possibly on the decline.

We'll start with Australia who have no chance and are unlikely to score a goal in my book.

Chile are a far better side than many will believe, they beat Uruguay 2-0 in qualifying, drew 2-2 with Brazil in Brazil, drew 2-2 with Spain in Geneva and beat England 2-0 at Wembley. They only lost 1-0 away to Germany as well so they could well be a surprise package. I'm tipping them to get into the next round at the expense of one of the big two.

Six wins and two draws in qualifying doesn't suggest Spain are in decline but I just feel the heat will not be to the advantage of an ageing squad. All good things come to an end and no team has won four major tournaments on the trot. I'm going for a shock with Spain eliminated in the group stages.

Holland are rebuilding and have injury problems in midfield. They have the coach Tottenham wanted, Louis Van Gaal before he leaves to take over Manchester United. In qualification the Dutch outdid the Spanish with nine wins and one draw. I'm taking them to qualify from the group with Chile.

Australia are another ageing side and not as good as they were. They travel to their third consecutive World Cup and will be going home after the group stages without having scored a goal.
