Tottenham players loan extended

Tottenham youngster Grant Ward was snapped up to play in the MLS for Chicago Fire and now that initial loan has been extended.

Ward is a 19 year-old Development Squad player who joined Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire for pre-season training and scored twice in warm up games. Frank Yallop their head coach then signed him on loan back in March.

"Grant is a young, technically-gifted player. I watched him play in England, and throughout our preseason training camp, Grant consistently proved that he has what it takes to do well in MLS. We look forward to him joining our squad once he has recovered from his injury."

He underwent surgery on March 11 to repair a fractured fifth metatarsal and stayed with Spurs to rehabilitate his foot before joining the Fire.

"Grant's injury is an unfortunate one but we fully expect him to bounce back," Fire technical rirector Brian Bliss said in a statement. "We saw the type of player Grant is while he was with us during preseason, and we're here to support and do what we can to help him get back to full fitness so he can join us later this season."

Yallop who apart from being Head Coach is also the Director of Soccer for Chicago Fire was delighted to have extended his successful stay with them.

“I’m glad that we are able to work with Tottenham to extend Grant’s loan through the end of the year.

“Since he has fully recovered from his foot injury, Grant has proven to be the skillful, attack-minded player that we knew him to be. He’s provided much needed depth to our squad and we’re happy to have him for the duration of the season.”

Ward made his Fire debut on May 24th, entering in the 61st minute of a 2-0 away defeat to the Columbus Crew. He has started the subsequent three matches for Chicago Fire during which time they have picked up a couple of draws.
