Three crazy transfer rumours
A brief round-up of three crazy stories doing the rounds about transfer rumours involving Tottenham. let's start with a paper with one of the worst records for successful transfer speculation, the Daily Mail.
They have produced a story which smacks of invention. They suggest Spurs are going to offer Sevilla £14 million for 21 year-old left-back Alberto Moreno, plus throw in Roberto Soldado on loan, plus Étienne Capoue who we bought for £8.6 million.
Firstly in the eyes of Daniel Levy all players increase in value whether they play or not so at a minimum he will value Capoue now at £10 million, but far more likely at £12 million. Goalscorers are worth their weight in gold and loaning Soldado out has no benefits for Tottenham at all.
All a loan spell does is run down a year on his contract with the club having to subsidise his wages as Sevilla are broke and can't afford to to pay him the full £4 million a year. By the end of a loan he would only have 2 years of his contract left meaning he could play for a year and then rum the final year down to leave on a free transfer. He would also be 30 in a year and his value would start to decrease not increase.
Sevilla value Moreno at £25 million but the suggested package is more like £30 million with few benefits to Tottenham but plenty of downsides. Capoue would need replacing for instance, that's more expense plus of course high-wages for a left-back, again highly unlikely.
Daniel Levy would not pay £25 million for a left-back, he was extremely reluctant to pay over £20 million for a striker. The story has zero credibility.
On to the East Grinstead Courier and another ill thought out story that again lacks any credibility. They suggest Tottenham will move for Glen Johnson of Liverpool and that £15 million would get him.
I should think it would, he will be 30 just after the season starts, kindly all all the Premier League players bought for £15 million in their 30's. Struggling are you, I'm not surprised.
We have an experienced right-back who is 24, yet we are going to pay what would be I believe, a record fee for a 30 year old in the Premier League, who would add nothing to the team. It's mind numbingly daft.

A piece of good news not transfer related, Nabil Bentaleb scored his first goal for Algeria, one of my dark horses to get out of the group stages along with Ecuador, who I take to top their group over France.
I'm still seeing stupid stories about Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez who is injured for 6 months after rupturing his cruciate ligaments in April. No club in their right mind is going to buy a player who won't be fit to play football until October at the earliest, then he has to get match fit and learn about his new teammates, so more like the end of November before he would be fit and integrated.
That's all quite apart from the fact that he would fail a medical and be uninsurable. There is no guarantee he will recover, he is fully expected to of course but look at Younes Kaboul. He has been injured and hasn't even recovered his fitness in 2 years.
We are going to take that chance again by signing Rodriguez are we? Do me a favour.
