Any hopes Tottenham had of signing Barcelona youngster Cristian Tello may have ended if Diego Simeone insists he is part of any Koke deal.

Spurs hopes of signing Barcelona youngster Cristian Tello diminish

Tottenham are one of a number of clubs tracking Cristian Tello who has not been getting enough playing time at Barcelona. He has just 428 minutes playing time in La Liga in 22 appearances. That equates to 4.75 full games or 19.45 minutes per appearance. He was given just 41 minutes in the UEFA Champions League,

New boss Luis Enrique is overhauling the Catalan clubs squad and being backed in the transfer market. One of his major targets, indeed a must have he has told his bosses is Koke, according to Mundo Deportivo (Sports World), a Spanish nationwide daily sports newspaper.

The 22 year-old Spanish international was part of the successful Atlético Madrid team that won the La Liga title under Argentinian boss Diego Simeone and finished runners-up in the UEFA Champions League last season.

Simeone wanted to sign Tello last summer but he chose Barcelona. Now he wants the wide man included as part of any deal for Koke which would scupper the hopes of a host of premier League clubs including Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton.

As is often the case at any press conference Koke says the right things about staying put.

"My future is with Atlético. I am happy in my club and now I have a deal and do not think about an exit.

"Really my head is only focused on the work for Spain in Brazil 2014. My dream is to win this title with minutes in the game, although that depends on the coach. I have arrived to the team and each day I learn many things, especially about players such as Xavi and Iniesta."

As we all know though such words are often meaningless. Many players leave their agents to sort everything and they go where they are sent, especially if their are third party economic interests, something not permitted in the Premier League.
