Sign a contract or play reserve football ultimatum

An exciting young Belgian talent, Zakaria Bakkali, could soon be on his way out of PSV Eindhoven for Tottenham after refusing their offer of a contract extension.

Sign a contract or play reserve football ultimatum

Bakkali has turned down a contract offer from PSV and indeed there are reports that the 18 year-old has been given an ultimatum by the Dutch club, sign a new contract or be relegated to the reserve team next season.

Unsurprisingly Bakkali has no desire to give in to such blackmail and wants out of the club altogether.

He wants a higher wage and PSV refuse to improve the offer on the table to extend his existing contract beyond June 2015 so a summer transfer window move is on the cards. PSV will perhaps be looking for £5 million but Tottenham may value him nearer £3 million.

PSV technical manager Marcel Brands told Voetbal International it is up to Bakkali whether he wants to sign a new deal.

"We have done all that we can. We have given him a good proposal and showed him a good view on the future. We won't do anything more. It is yes or no."

Bakkali is a fast, expressive, attacking midfielder who is thought to favour a move to White Hart Lane, where he stands to receive more first-team opportunities than he would at Premier League Champions Manchester City. Arsenal and Liverpool have also both been watching the player.

He would have to bide his time as he only played 679 minutes of league football in his 16 appearances, scoring 3 times. He is defensively very weak and not very good in the air, his strengths are dribbling and playing through balls. Something to work with and something to work on as you would expect with an 18 year-old.

Rated as one of the brightest prospects in the Eredivisie last season he has already earned himself a call-up to the Belgium's senior international squad. He gained his first cap in a World Cup qualifier against Wales which Belgium drew 1-1 in October.
