Manchester United ruined Rooney

When Wayne Rooney left Everton for Manchester United he stopped himself developing into the world class player he could have been.

Manchester United ruined Rooney

Everton have unearthed a new young star and he must not make the same mistake Rooney made. People will say that is crazy Wayne Rooney has won 5 Premier League titles, 2 League cups and a Champions League. Well yes he has but this is not about what you have won as part of a team but you as an individual player.

Is Wayne Rooney the best player he could possibly be? The answer is an emphatic no.

Wayne Rooney has never produced anything on the big stage where it matters because at Manchester United he plays this position, that position, over there, over her, everywhere.

Had he been allowed to develop in one position as a striker then he would be a better player now. He is a jack of all trades, master of none now, a versatility player, a useful one but just a versatility player.

He should leave and join a club who will play him as a striker. At 28 (29 on October 24th) he doesn't have that long left. If he stays at Man United then there is little point taking him to the European Championships in 2 years unless it's as Barkley's understudy.

Let's hope Barkley learns from the mistakes Rooney has made and puts his development ahead of money grabbing and glory hunting. If you want to be the best you can be then going to a big club is not always the best thing for you.

If they want to use you as a utility player you leave. Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, two more players ruined by going to Old Trafford instead of developing themselves.

These two could have developed into England's long term centre-back pairing but now we are stuck with Jagielka and Cahill, neither of which are international class. Jones and Smalling are their understudies which tells you how bad they are now. Quite how Smalling managed to get picked in the squad for the World Cup is a mystery.
