Hoddle misses final defeat

Glenn Hoddle is a Tottenham legend, a name every fan knows. He was a player before his time with a talent that would make him a £100 million player today.

Hoddle misses final defeat

As a player at Tottenham he won the FA Cup in 1981 and 1982, the FA Charity Shield in 1981 and the UEFA Cup in 1984. At Monaco he Ligue 1 in 1987/88 and the French Cup in 1991.

As a player manager he won the Football League First Division play-off with Swindon Town in 1991 and was runner-up in the FA Cup Final with Chelsea in 1994.

As a manager at Tottenham he was runner-up in the Worthington Cup in 2002-02.

He knows a little about getting to finals and winning them but also knows the heartbreak of losing.

His nephew George Hoddle had hoped to follow in those footsteps but he was deemed ineligable to take part in the Calvert Trophy. For anyone who played football in their youth at club or representative level can tell you, getting to a final is an exciting time. Not being able to take part because of age restrictions when you have played in all the other rounds must have been heart breaking for the lad.

Young Hoddle plays for Bishop Stortford Under 10's even though he is 2 years younger than his teammates.

Looking at past games he picks up Man of the Match awards so he must have some of his uncles ability. George had taken part in all the other rounds but missed the final which without him his side lost.

Perhaps we will we be seeing another Hoddle at the Lane is years to come.
