Belgium & Algeria to go through

The final group at this summers World Cup is one of, if not the easiest group of the tournament.

Belgium & Algeria to go through

The winners of Group H will play the runners-up of Group G, expected to be Portugal and the runners-up of this group will play the winners of Group G, expected to be Germany. It is a group it would be best to win.

Group H

Group H consists of Belgium, Russia, South Korea and Algeria.

The group starts on Sunday 17th June with Belgium against Algeria and Russia against South Korea. The second set of games take place on Sunday 22nd June with Belgium taking on Russia and South Korea against Algeria. The group ends on Thursday 26th June with South Korea against Belgium and Algeria against Russia.

Belgium

A young and talented side as a result of the changes made to youth football in Belgium that I looked at in a previous article. Belgium were undefeated in qualifying and didn't drop a point away from home.

The fifth favourites should easily qualify from this group as winners so will be expecting to face Portugal in the next round. Heat, nerves and inexperience at this level are their only problems.

Algeria

Algeria conceded just four goals in their six qualifying games and only dropped just three points. They have chances of qualifying from this group as they will carry a goal threat and put up a stiff defence.

Nabil Bentaleb has made the Algerian squad and scored his first international goal in their last warm up game, a tap-in after a defensive mix up.

Russia

Russia are not the team they were. Only one of this squad plays outside Russia and they have an awful record away from home, they scored only two goals. They topped their qualifying group thanks to their home form, playing in South America will be a different experience though.

Managed by Fabio Capello their dismal away record may well continue giving real hope to Algeria and South Korea.

South Korea

This South Korea side is a poor one, they struggled through what looked like easy qualifying nearly missing out to Uzbekistan. They have an unsettled side and chopped and changed during qualifying. The lack of a settled side will not help their chances and they may well be booked for last place.

Group H Final Standings
