Spurs in for Ashley Cole

The Mail on Sunday suggest Ashley Cole to Tottenham is a possibility.

Spurs in for Ashley Cole

The England left-back is a free agent who interested Manchester City and Liverpool apart from ourselves. There is also interest from abroad from both Monaco and Real Madrid for the 33 year-old (34 in December).

Tottenham are in need of a left-back with Danny Rose nowhere near the standard required. If a younger option is not purchased then as a stop gap for a season Cole would certainly fit the bill. Our left side has been a weakness for 2 years now so an experienced player with a winning mentality could provide some strength down that side.

His wages would be a problem I expect, we can't compete on wages with any of the interested clubs mentioned but what we can offer however is regular first team football, something he would be unlikely to receive elsewhere. You would have thought that at his age playing regularly would hold great appeal, more so than being a squad member for wages.

Personally I couldn't care less who he has played for, he is a quality player at the end of his career but if his experienced can help our defence and help stabilise our major weakness then I'd be happy to see him in a white shirt.
