Spurs close to signing Lloris understudy

Regular readers will recall we tried to sign Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow back in January.

Spurs close to signing Lloris understudy

Brad Friedel is 43 today, happy birthday Brad, hardly a spring chicken so Spurs have been searching for an understudy to Hugo Lloris to take over the number two duties from the American.

Darlow is a 23 year-old Englishman, although he has a grandfather who played for Wales and was in their 1958 World Cup squad. He didn't join in January because he wanted to continue to play football rather than sit on our bench but we have not given up hope of signing the 6'1" (1.85m) keeper and continue to pursue his signature.

The latest reports are that we are expected to beat Liverpool and Chelsea to his signature. There is doubt about the future of Lloris at White Hart Lane so Darlow may be feeling the time is right to move with a greater chance of breaking into the first team and becoming number one.

In the January transfer window we placed a bid of £2 million but it will take more than that to secure his services.

It could be all change at Tottenham if Hugo Lloris departs and Tottenham search for a new number one. They have been linked with 27 year-old England No 1 Joe Hart who could be on his way out of Manchester City and Cardiff City 29 year-old stopper David Marshall.

Also at Forest we have been continuing to watch his teammate Jammal Lascelles. The 20 year-old is an English centre-back who was the subject of an illegal approach by Everton and has been constantly watched by both Liverpool and Arsenal.

He is an England youth international and is though to have a bright future. Former England centre-back Des Walker who was a quality player himself thinks Lascelles could develop into something special.
