Baldini works on Chiriches swap deal
Vlad Chiriches was part of the 'Summer Seven' at White Hart Lane last year but has failed to impress in his first season.
While being comfortable on the ball, his passing is wayward and he frequently gives the ball away in his own half. He takes unnecessary risks when left one-on-one and always gives the impression a mistake is just around the corner.
Positionally he is poor, he has a major weakness on his left hand side, he is poor in the air and lacks concentration. With Jan Vertonghen not trying and Younes Kaboul a shadow of the one season player we have seen, the Spurs central defence has been a shambles.
Franco Baldini has been tasked with securing centre-halves and while one option is to let Younes Kaboul move on, with West Ham, Fiorentina and clubs in the Middle East interested, another is selling Vlad Chiriches.
Fiorentina have offered Kaboul a two-year deal with a one-year option on decent wages but Baldini is exploring swapping Chiriches with centre-back Stefan Savic instead.
Savic has Premier League experience with Manchester City in 2011-12. He has impressed in his time with the Italians and is now being watched by a host of top clubs. The Montenegrian is a target for AC Milan and Manchester United but if Baldini can pull off a swap deal Spurs would save part of the £14 million he is expected to cost.

The 23 year-old has a contract until 2016 and was on wages of £10,124 a week in 2012 when he joined the Fiorentina. Standing 6' 2" (1.88m) he is strong in the air, is an excellent passer of the ball and has improved his concentration, cutting out the mistakes that marked his time at Manchester City.
He stays on his feet, doesn't dive into tackles so is good at making interceptions and then playing short passes to a teammate. As a youngster he showed a lot of promise which he is now starting to fulfil and is the right age to continue improving.
With Chiriches and Kaboul to bargain with and Baldini's standing within the Italian game Tottenham will be hopeful a deal can be reached.
