Alderweireld on Spurs radar again

Tottenham are thought to be considering a move for former centre-back target Toby Alderweireld with doubts surrounding the future of Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen.

Alderweireld on Spurs radar again

The 6'1" (1.86m) Belgian international is another product of Ajax who we considered but had reservations about his close one-on-one skills. In the end we didn't pursue our interest and the 25 year-old moved to Atletico Madrid for £6.1 million.

Atletico have just won la Liga drawing away to Barcelona on the final day to take the title and now have a Champions League final against Real Madrid to look forward to.

Alderweireld has struggled to claim a place in the starting eleven, playing just 12 games totalling 908 minutes which basically equates to 10 full games. He wants to be playing regular football telling Sport.es:

“I miss Ajax, their style of play, my ex-teammates...At Atleti, I can’t be happy if I’m not playing."

In January Atletico offered him to Napoli so a move this summer seems likely. If we do firm up our interest we will have competition from Liverpool for his signature.

Tottenham certainly need strengthening at centre-back but he can also provide cover for Kyle Walker at right-back.
