No chance for Lamela this season

The Daily Telegraph fabricated story that the Spurs hierarchy were putting pressure on Tim Sherwood to play Erik Lamela was soon found to have no foundation.

No chance for Lamela this season

Tim Sherwood came out at the time to say he'd like to play him but he's injured. He has now given the press an up date on the young Argentinian who returned to training on Tuesday confirming there is no chance of him being fit.

“I haven’t seen him, he hasn’t trained with the group yet. It’s going to come too soon for Erik, unfortunately, the end of the season. The last thing you want to do is rush back.

“He’ll want to play, he certainly will, and everyone would love to see him play but it’s going to be too soon for him.

“Recently I spoke to our medical guys and I said in the close season we have five weeks off and then we come back and we have six weeks of pre-season, so someone who’s been out for 12 or 13 weeks surely can’t be fit in two or three days. It’s just not going to be possible, he’s not going to play this season.

“Would I be surprised if he’s picked for the Argentina World Cup squad? It would be a surprise to me because I haven’t seen Erik. He’s not trained yet - but there’s a bit of a time before the World Cup kicks off.

“It all depends how their national manager sees him in the pecking order and what other options they’ve got. That goes for any national team manager. I haven’t seen him around the training ground a lot, he’s backwards and forwards seeing different specialists. Were trying to get him back as quickly as possible.”

There is no doubt he has talent and Spurs will be hoping that next season free from injury fans can see the real player emerge.
