When asked if he would be leaving Spurs at the end of the year he dodged the question giving the standard review options answer.

Players want Champions League football and the reality of football is if you can't provide it they will want to go somewhere that can. Like it or not that's the way it is.

Jan Vertonghen has decided, his performances tell us that and I have no doubt Hugo Lloris will want to leave as well. he will always be well thought of because he is one of the few still trying, still prepared to produce a performance.

If that is to happen and with Brad Friedel the oldest keeper around we are going to need to buy someone to stand between the sticks. The current name in the frame, and it won't be the last, is Cardiff City stopper David Marshall. He is 29 and has that required Premier League experience Tim Sherwood says we need.

Decent goalkeepers and ten a penny quite frankly so if Lloris left it wouldn't be that much of a problem. Yes he is the best sweeper keeper in the Premier League but there are plenty of perfectly good keepers around, many of who would I'm sure be delighted to join a regular top 5 club.

We have also previously been linked with a move for Joe Hart at Manchester City who would no doubt be the more expensive option. Both are internationals, one Scottish, one English, both would form part of the required homegrown quota. Another we have shown an interest in is 24 year-old Karl Darlow who we tried to sign from Nottingham Forest in January making a £4 million bid.

If we can hang onto Hugo Lloris all well and good, if we can't it's not a disaster.
